Staying outdoors in the blistering heat of the scorching summer sun can only result in you getting a heat stroke. The first symptoms that appear when you are experiencing a heat stroke are heat exhaustion, rapid-deep breaths, accelerated heartbeat, throbbing headaches, nausea, vomiting, skin turning red, dizziness, and excessive sweating.

The main cause that brings about these symptoms leading to an eventual heat stroke is when your body temperature escalates, over 40 degrees Celsius. This could even severely affect the body’s vital organs. Also, if the body’s fluid levels are really low, it will eventually begin dehydrating which increases the risk of a heat stroke.

That being said, here are some excellent home remedies for dealing with heat strokes:

1. Plums

Plums are rich in antioxidants and are extremely beneficial in keeping the body sufficiently hydrated. It even has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe any internal inflammation brought about by the heat stroke. Just, make plum juice, by soaking some plums in water till they get soft; extract their juice by crushing them in the water and then straining it. It is one of the most effective remedies for a heat stroke and it even keeps your body cool and calm.

3. Buttermilk and Coconut Water

Drinking buttermilk and coconut water (not at the same time), when experiencing a heat stroke can really help you recover faster. Buttermilk being rich in probiotics and other essential vitamins & minerals, replenishes your body’s drained resources, due to the excessive sweating. Coconut, on the other hand, replenishes the body’s electrolytes through rehydration.

4. Tamarind Drink

Make a tamarind drink by soaking some tamarind in hot/boiling water and after some time strain and add a pinch of sugar. Drinking this juice will replenish your depleted electrolytes, vitamins and minerals and soothe your heat stroke. It can even sooth your stomach, providing relief from vomiting, as it contains mild laxative properties. It also brings your body temperature down, thereby preventing excessive heating up of the body.

5. Onions

In case of a heat stroke, applying onion juice on the chest and at the back of the ears helps lower your body’s temperature. In fact it is considered to be one of the best home remedies for heat strokes. An alternate method involves roasting raw onions along with honey and cumin and eaten. Onions can naturally keep your system cool.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar

7. Basil and Fennel Seeds

Both these seeds when made into a concoction have cooling effects on the body. Basil seeds, when mixed in cool rose water provide a great heat stroke remedial concoction. Similarly, fennel seeds widely considered a cooling spice, when soaked in water overnight and strained and drunk in the morning keeps your body hydrated, cool and protected against the raging heat.

8. Aloe Vera Juice
